Default Buying a 2000 Turbo today!

Hi guys,

I'm buying this 2000 GLS 1.8 Turbo today:

I'm getting a good deal on it, $10,000.00. it was $11,000.00 but the airbag and oxygen sensor is messed up... they said they looked into getting it fixed, but it would cost $1,200.00 that's why they lowered it to $10,000.00. When I test drove it yesterday I really liked it! They said the airbag light stays on... but it wasn't on when I test drove it. They said it was reset.

Anyway, How can I fix the airbag and oxygen sensor for cheap? Also, when mechanical problems happen can I take it to a regular car place like Car X?

Is there anything I should know about it, is this a good deal? I looked at it yesterday, and I'll buy it today, in about 8 hours from now. It has 64,367 miles on it, and it's a manual.

I bought my 2000 GLX for about $8500ish with 43,000 miles and bad O2 sensors.

...But you know, the car looks like it's in good condition cosmetically! Are you buying from a dealer? Maybe you can convince them to fix the O2 sensor and airbag problems, then you'll buy it for $10k.

Fixing those probs you mentioned shouldn't be costing over a grand, I don't think.

The guy from the dealership just called, and the monthly payments would be too much, so I guess I'm not going to be able to get it after all.

If its the actual airbag that is bad, they are not cheap at all. Check with your State DMV and see if they can even sell the car legally with a malfunctioning airbag. That just seems really odd to me.

Replacing the O2 sensor should not be hard to do yourself if you are use to working on cars.

[rant on]Make sure you get at least one master key with remote, if not get them to knock more off the price[rant off]

The price seems too high to me, I'm glad you're not paying that much for it. Get them to lower it, maybe show them some ads of other 2000's for less.

I dunno where you live, but here's some 2000 beetles for the same or more mileage for less than 10k. Hope this helps! Good luck

(I had to use a different account... I messed up the log in on the other one).

I live in Indianapolis, anyway I'm not going to get the car... the payments are too expensive.

Great news!

I talked him down to a little under $9,000.00! I'm going to pick up the car tonight!

i am a car dealer and if the light is on and they are aware they have to fix it before selling it. as for the price 9,000 is still alittle high. i only paid 7400 for my 2000 with 39,000 miles but i did get it at cost.

They said it would cost them $1,200.00 to fix the airbag sensor, but instead of doing that they are just lowering the price. I had to hagle pretty bad to get him to go that low.

They need to fix that airbag before it leaves the lot. That's a safety issue. Don't let them "do you a favor" by lowering the price and not fixing the bag. I'd personally be really leary of the seller.

Yeah, as stated before, get that crap fixed before you buy! My CEL went on the day I bought my car, I drove it right back and told them to fix it. Unfortunately it wasn't under my lame warranty, but I was pretty unhappy and looked like I was scaring away customers, so they said they'd pay half

I am now the owner of a 2000 Beetle GLS 1.8 Turbo! Now I just need to learn how to drive it! LOL. It's a manual.

The airbag isn't messed up, it's just the sensor.

Just the sensor? The sensor is $40, a few hours labor and an ECU scan to clear codes. Where did they come up with $1200?!
