Unhappy How do I change the comi valve on the secondary air injection.

I looked in the manual all it says is unhook the air tubes and "remove" valve. Do I have to do this from under the car? what tools do I need?

Beetle APH 1.8T

Thanks

No, different devices.
While you have things apart, consider replacing the vacuum lines too.

That photo is the diverter valve. It is located on the intake pipe. The Comi valve is part of the emission system the secondary air injection to be exact. It is bolted to the head with three 5mm hex head bolts. Kind of PITA to get at, but got her done. Already did the Vac lines. I am hoping that I have narrowed the CEL down to this.

Thanks

Just curious... how did you know the Combi Valve was failing? Is there a procedure to test it?

Through a slow process of elimination, (only slow because I could only carve out a few minutes here a few there to check things.)

Started with getting the CEL.
Checked the Vac lines, They literally turned to dust in my hands.
Replaced the Vac lines. Gave it a few days to see if that helped.

Got the CEL again.

Checked the vac solenoid it is providing vac to the comi valve.

Pulled vac line from combi valve and applied vac to valve, could not get it to work. However I must of done some good, because my code went from just saying incorrect flow detected all the time to being intermittent

Ordered and changed the combi valve. Not difficult, but a tight fit with the coolant line right in front of it.

Waiting to see if CEL returns. Keep your fingers crossed.
