It's under the passenger side forward dash panel. Slide the center console trim piece forward (piece closest to the windshield), then remove it, then you will need a "star" wrench or screwdriver, not sure of size, then remove the dash cover, under there there are approx 8 more screws, remove them and the panel and there is the filter. Lather, rinse, repeat!

You are correct but the search isn't that great because of the platform so says one of the admins. I have a very difficult time finding anything.

Bad Bug, don't be afraid to ask a question if you need one answered. Just try a simple search first. Most here will just post a link and a ..... And the redundant question will sink away in time. Sometimes I have read identical threads with the same question and have taken different info from each. Asking the same question twice isn't always a bad thing.

Mainly my point was to say welcome And fear not the wrath for double postings.

I'm getting a funky smell inside my 03 Turbo S, so I bought a new filter from NAPA, nu are you saying you can wash the origional, dry it then put it back? The one from NAPA is a paper typ filter. At VW the filter was $40.00, but $19.95 at NAPA.

Here's a German made cabin filter i bought, i have not seen a washable filter, and if it exits i'm sure it doesn't do a good job like the carbon air filters. http://cgi1.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAP...tem=8052971837

The OEM filter through VW is an activated charcoal variety. It helps to get rid of external odors, too...

The screwdriver to use is a torque screwdriver shaped like an 6-point star. I found the regular-length screwdriver awkward to use on the screws closest to the windshield. The "shortie" screwdriver was a real godsend at this point. Also make sure you have a shop vac handy, there can be an awful mess under there (mine had pine needles, leaves, and other unidentifiable stuff). Good luck
