Default '06 radiator fan questions....

SO I have read what I can find both here and over at tdiclub but I cant seem to find the answers. Here is the deal....

1-When driving with the A/C on, I notice that pretty much every time I come to a stop the interior fan speed drops noticeably and then goes back up to speed. I assume this is because the radiator fan is coming on? Do any of you have that happen?

2-I have never seen the small radiator fan run at all. I just let the car idle in my driveway for about 30min after driving around town. The big fan came on for about 20sec but the small one never came on at all. I have read that both fans should be on when the A/C is on and that the small fan kicks on when the engine temp goes up with no A/C on....Can any of you confirm or deny this? IS this an '06 thing? Is there an easy way to jumper the small fan to see if it works? I can't really fit my hand between the radiator the engine. I have checked the "fuses" on top of the battery and they appear to be fine...

Any help or advice would be appreciated. The car never overheats and the A/C blows cold at stops and super cold on the freeway. I want to be aware of things before I go to the eveil dealership for this.....

Sounds like a voltage issue but like you said it works.. right...? Don't bring it to the dealer unless you are already there for something else. Just an excuse to get extra grease on your car.

I never noticed a drop in fan speed when slowing to a stop, but I will listen now. I know the AC sytem is fairly advanced as far as efficiency so who knows maybe it's a design feature.

Well I do have a few other issues for the stealer so I will be risking it soon. I do assume that it is fairly advanced too but the drop in the inside fan speed and the small radiator fan not running does seem like a problem to me. I also have a bad driver side window that loves to smear some sort of white sticky stuff all over the window when it gets above 80 outside....Please let me know if you see/hear the same thing on yours with the A/C- I dont think yours does it like you said. Trust me, it is VERY noticeable....thanks

Default rad. fan

Both fans should be running, They both run with A/C or when temp. is high enough. May be drawing more voltage with bad fan.

Yeah- I made an appointment for next week at the dealer. They also said that the small fan should run all the time when the A/C is on and that the large one may cycle off and on. Hopefully they dont screw it up...I'm crossing my fingers...Never been to this dealer since I just moved to the city...Wish me luck

I have the same problem with my 03. It does it when I am driving at night as well, my headlights dim out and the interior fan slows and then everything comes back. Seems a little strange to me. I just bought this car a few weeks ago so I am not sure if this is normal or not. I have also noticed that the fan continues to run after I shut my car off more often now.

Anyone have any ideas?

Well I took mine in and they said both fans were bad even though the big one cycled on and off. They replaced both and now all is fine, no more surging or lights dimming.

akasha-You should pop the hood with the a/c on and car running. the small fan should be on and the large will go on and off. You could have a bad fan or fan control module...

My interior fan speed drops from time to time as well, then spools back up to normal after a second or two. This only happens when I come to a stop after driving at highway speeds.

I still get a slight drop when I come from speed to a stop and I have the A/C cranked up on full. Before it would do it at pretty much every stop every time and it was a very noticeable drop....

I check the fans and they both seem to be working properly. So, maybe it is just the way the car runs?

The other thing I have is when first gear..accelerating to go into 2nd there is a "whistle" or the sound of something closing ..it only lasts about 10 - 15 seconds and then goes away. It doesn't happen everytime. It sounds like something releasing pressure or a valve opening and closing. In my Volvo, it had a similar noise, but it was coming from the interior, they said it was the a/c dampner.

This mainly happens when in first gear and also sometimes happens when I shut the car off. Is this the A/C compressor or something else? This only happens when I am running the A/C.
