Default Need a Timing Belt in the Tri-State or New England area?

As you all know, the timing belt is a key part of your engine. VW reccomends replacement at anywhere between 40-100k depending on year and motor. If the service is not done on time, the belt could jump time or snap, both causing expensive repairs. While it is not a cheap repair to do this key maintenance, it is vital to your car's well-being to do this in a timely fashion. I reccomend that when doing this repair, one purchases the 100K timing belt kit from dieselgeek.com. This kit provides a new belt, water pump, stretch bolts, tensioner, and rollers.

I am available to do this repair at a reduced cost over the dealer, and can do this repair at your convenience. I can travel to you if you have ample space to work, or alternatively, you can come to me. I have air tools and access to the proper tools to set tension and pump time for the pre-04 TDI's.

My labor rate if you come to me is $200 for the 2004-up TDI's and $250 for the 98-03 TDI's. If I travel, I factor in a rate of $.15 per mile in addition to the above prices. This covers fuel for my car, shop supplies that I will need to purchase, and any emergency supplies I may need (rags in a box, oil for my air tools, wear/tear on my 1990 Cabriolet, etc.). My rates are fair, and my work comes backed with a warranty that I personally will uphold in writing. I have many personal references that I can provide to you upon request. I am also a certified Volkswagen technician as well.

This is a day job, and while I work speedily, I do not rush this job as it is a key part in your car's lifeline. I prefer to start as early as possible in the morning to maximize daylight hours because I work outside at my house.

I can be reached either thru the private messaging service here or through email at thecheat1206@gmail.com .

as i have mentioned in another post, I am looking to buy a used TDI, 99 or 00, after reading all the posts regarding timing belts,I am concerned, other than the records, how can I tell that it has been changed, and if it was changed at say 60k miles when will if need to be changed again, assuming they didn't buy the 11k kit you wrote about. I am asking all of this because, I am having trouble finding a TDI in California

Better be safe than sorry. Assume that it needs to be changed and figure that into the price you're willing/wanting to pay. Parts cost about $300 with labor close to the same amount (double the amount if you have a dealer do the work). The waterpump has a datestamp on it but once it's installed, it's impossible to see it. Anyway, there are a few reliable internset shops that sell the kit (100k mi kit is pretty much the one you want). Goddluck!

Wow, that's good...too bad the trip from FL to CT would negate the savings for me

I got my timing belt kit done for like $900 at a certified VW mechanic near my house. Added bonus: He's so German he barely speaks English :-D
