Does Norm have heated side mirrors? If he does, I think that means you also have heated nozzles. When the weather is cold, just move the little knob on your door for the mirror to defrost and that's all you need to do for the mirrors. I'm not sure about the nozzles though. Did you get an owner's manual with your car?

In 2002, heated seats were only available with the cold weather package which includes heated seats and heated washer nozzles. FYI, to check for yourself, open the hood and look for a pair of wires going to the washer nozzles in addition to the plastic tube that carries the washer fluid.

As a side note to that, remember to keep the dial for the heated side mirrors on either the "R" or the "L", not in the middle. Put it in the middle only when you need to defrost the side windows. Otherwise the wires burn out and you lose the heated feature.

I can't say whether you have heated washer nozzles or not but, the owners manual says you have to do nothing to turn them on. They work solely on air temperature....although they don't mention at what temperature this happens.

This feature is rather useless until you get freezing temps going on. You dont see anything like steam coming from the fluid on a cold night, but if your window is frozen over, and you've let your car run for a few moments, it will usually help in defrosting the outside of the windshield so you can see!
Another good thing to do would be putting some antifreeze-containing washer fluid like 20/20 cold weather fluid etc. That doesnt even have to be "warm" to help defrost the ice, which helps for TDI's cause you dont want to idle for very long in cold weather, or the engine never heats up and you wont have any defrosting at all!
