Default TDI Heater is really the heat!

I installed a TDI Heater (http://www.frostheater.com/) when we bought our 2K6 DZL BTL. It's been dropping to the low 20s @ night but the heater really makes a difference. It fires right up and we have heat immediately. It is definitely worth the price. Only problem was in getting it up into the mounting position. Saying it is tight is an understatement, but with patience and taking my time, I got it done. Everything fit perfectly. Smaller hands would have helped though.

But all in all, I highly recommend it for anyone with cold winters and an electric outlet near by.

It fits as long as you don't have the DSG. Manuals only. I have requested that they contact me when they "engineer" something for the DSG models.

Currently I am exploring the possiblity of retrofitting an A5 electric heater core into the box of an A4. Direct wire to an ignition or accessory wire, two position switch in one of the blank rear defroster spaces, and connect to a ground. I think it's 1000 watts or more, so think medium power hair dryer on cold mornings. That would be enough to clear the windshield in a hurry.

I tried to get some pics, but ther is no way to get a shot. It is too crowded in the engine area and even hard to see when you know just where to look.

I plug up the car when we get home (usually about 8-9 PM) if the temp is expected to dip down into the lower 30s over night. When I unplug in the morning to go to work, there's heat immediately.

The heater is on a thermostat so it does not go all the time-just when needed to keep the motor coolant temp warm.
