Default Any one else with 2005 and DSG have TSB..

Has anyone else with a DSG transmission had the cold start TSB done(the one where they change the injectors, glowplugs and glowplug controll module and update the ECU software), the one that is supposed to correct the very rough idle at low temps when first started? If you have, have you noticed an inconcistent performance or a funky fuel economy (getting the exact same milage on blended fuel in the dead of winter as you do in the middle of summer running on straight D2)? Or am I the only one to have this done?

I had this done about a year ago, not so much to correct the rough idle, but was told it would fix the hard starting I was having in really cold weather (0F and below). All durring the past year I have been complaining to the dealer about performance issues (great performance one minute - lousy the next) and decreased fuel economy. BTW - the hard starting was later found out to be caused by a defective fuel filter, or so they said.

About two weeks ago I put a new battery in (dealer said it couldn't hurt). The dealer even told me not to buy one from them, as it would be the same "junk" battery that came in the car. I spent ~$140 on an Interstate battery and the nothing changed. The dealer kept it overnight and the next morning when they tried to start it (it was below zero here) they said they had a very difficult time getting it start.

Durring the summer they look at the car several times for my performance and economy complaints and couldn't find anything wrong. Now all of the sudden they believe it is a software (ECU) problem. The service manager said he sent all the info to VW and is now waiting for new software for the ECU.

I've read a lot on this mod, and I wish to never have it performed. Lost of very similar posts tho with people who have had it done regarding fuel mileage.

I have noticed that the car, 06 pd dsg, starts much nicer in a semi heated garage at 40-50 deg. F. than outside in the 20's, but it is still smooth running, just louder and COLDER. brrrrrr.

I have no idea if they fixed the 06's with the TSB of prior years, of if they are saved for the colder Canadian climates. Either way, car starts fine and I have no problems so far. temps only as low as the high teens so far.

I just don't like the idea of mechanics possibly only trained to wash cars monkey'ing around with the heart of my car.
I'll build a larger garage first, or just kick the wife's car to the curb

I honestly think that half of the problems people face in cold climates are poor fuel sources, and poorly treated fuel for cold weather performance. Gelling, low centane, etc.

Diesels like a certain fuel spec when it gets colder, and they are much pickier about these specks when extreemly cold, then say at freezing.

I did not know the TSB covered 2005 and later TDI's. My 2005 MY TDI with the DSG has never had a cold weather starting problem. It has started perfectly in weather colder than 0°F with no problems at all (central Indiana).
