Default An odd clutch pedal question

OK, this started recently.. as I let the clutch out, the pedal makes a "clicking" noise in the area of where it goes through the underside of the dash and has a very slight clunk feel to it as it comes to the end of it's travel. Nothing seems to be wrong otherwise.

So, what is it, should I be concerned, is it fixable and how would I go about fixing it if it's needed?

Thanks!

Maybe there is a place on the board where your question will get better coverage. This sounds like a general car question rather than a TDI specific one.

It's nothing I've noticed, and I've got almost 190,000 miles on my clutch. I have noticed a groaning noise when I start moving, but no clicking from the pedal.

If the noise is on the inside of the car, inside the cabin, then there is nothing to lube there.

I believe there is a switch there, to disengage the cruise control when you depress the clutch pedal, so perhaps there is some issue with it.

Besides the switch, it could be the spring on the pedal that may be about to go bad.

In a nutshell, you have to contort yourself like Houdini and get your head underneath the dash to take a close look.

No idea bob; maybe something plastic slid over and is obstructing the pedal.

Cool

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that "CEL-ine" would start without the clutch pedal being depressed (few things more sorrowful than a depressed clutch pedal ). The last service included the replacement of the brake switch and the timing belt/water pump set-up. Any input on why this might affect the clutch/starter relationship (or any related theories whatsoever)???

I had the same thing happen to my old Toyota. There was a "momentary"-style switch that the clutch pedal hits when it's all the way down. I'm guessing yours has gone out (assuming it's the same setup as the Toyota).

Alan,
I think the clutch has a switch JUST LIKE the brake switch.

I dunno for sure, but that's what I'm thinking. I have the same problem; but I don't really see it as a problem. It's just phrog growing new features. Scared me the first couple times, now I'm used to it.

Thanks Ron,

I don't see it as a problem either. I recalled that the clutch had to be depressed to start it and I was surprised when that was not necessary anymore...

Ditto on Paul McCartney. I thought it had something to do with internal wear in the clutch system and assumed it would go away when I do my replacement some time after 200,000 miles.

My owner's book says to press the clutch to start the car, but she does start without - I understood it was something to do with preventing excessive wear on some engine parts?

I understood it was so there was no chance of starting while the transmission was engaged. Dating is fine, but not engaged.
