Default How many miles on your TDI

I have been looking for a used beetle and like much of what I have read in this forum. (excelent work guys). But since I am looking at used what type of life can I expect from a TDI. 100k 150k 500k??? Also what are the big wear expences. From reading I am guessing Timing belt but what about injector pump or turbo ect. Thanks

178,000 on the Beetle but only 3,000 of them are mine.

You may need to change the cam followers sometime and the fuel system won't live forever, but the injectors are fairly cheap and the pump can be rebuilt.

An additive that will increase lubricity (such as B5) will help the pump live a nice, long life.

Let's see.. 69000 in about 6 1/2 years.. Looks like I could get at least another 10 years out of mine Assuming the rest of the car doesn't fall apart by then, that is.

I'm at around 102,000mile. I put about 30k since owning in the 15months I've had it. I estimate that I saved well over $1600 already.

My '98 Beetle was purchased with 145,000mi; now has 168,000mi and still going strong.
Largest expense has been timing belt; no issues with injection pump or turbo.

Cool Hey Cori and Verlane

Hi from Elmhurst

How have you two been? We spent last wknd w/ our son Lyle and Jess. Had a great time. got home Mon nite. Trying to catch up w/ mail and misc stuff. Now I'm pricing what we want to sell at the garage sale. Our neighbor in Galena will have it at her house. There's more stuff I have to price that is in Galena, so we will go there this wknd. There's alot of STUFF from my mother-in-law's house that we are selling. We did close on her house July 9, so we don't have to worry about that anymore.
what have you two been doing? I'm still trying to figure out this website.
take care and write soon
John and Laura

p.s. I had to use elbow grease to get all the BUGS off my front bumper!!!!

Just shy of 17,000 miles after 14 months of ownership. The last 4200 miles occurred in the last 3 weeks. I'll never catch Cet or Jerry.

Are you running the 100,000 mile belt set-up?

My 98 has 59,300 on her. I have owned her since November 1998. I didn't drive her from August 2004 until July 2007. So glad to be driving her again and I hope she lasts a long time.
