Default I Just Ordered Some Bosio Sprint 520 Nozzles!

So... luckily I just HAPPENED to click onto kermatdi.com, and it turns out that they are having a sale on Sprint 520 nozzles!

$220 plus shipping, normally $240, AND they give you a shirt with it!

I'm SO excited! This is my first real engine modification on Stinky (first of many, hopefully!), since I don't count removing the snorkel an engine mod.

Since I am somewhat disappointed by the photographic how-to's that are out there for the swap, I'm going to video tape it and post it to YouTube. That way people can really learn how to do it well... or at least as well as a 20 year old kid that has only ever replaced injectors on a 28 year old Mercedes 300D.

Good luck man.

its easy if you know what you are doin.

do yo uhave a slide hammer? use the money you saved on the sprints to buy the injector line wrench and the slidehammer ($80 total) from metalnerd.

well worth the money for those.

You will probably need to slidehammer to remove your injectors if they haven't been removed recently. I made my own by welding a lug nut with the correct threads to a second nut that threaded onto my dent puller. They pop right out.

I love those nozzles!!! I got them through tdiparts.com, who distributes them for kerma. For some reason they were cheaper on tdiparts than kerma. I paid what you did on sale (but didn't get a shirt).

I'm actually getting two shirts... but shhhh! Don't tell anyone!

I'm hoping I don't need to use the slidehammer to get the nozzles out. Hopefully I can just do the "twist and pull" method.

I tried that method with mine, but after 181k miles, they were really stuck in there! Once they were out, the swap went nicely.

Luckily I've only got 103K... if they don't come out right away, I'll have to figure something out.

I'm so excited!!!

Help a guy out. I am a TDI Newb and am curious what these injectors offer? Are they larger? More power?

on your 2002, with a 5 speed, the sprints are a very nice bang for the buck upgrade.

worth every penny. I would recommend that you get them balanced

if you look up a guy by the screen name Franko6 on tdiclub, he can sell you the nozzles on a balanced set of injector bodies for a great price and you know they will be right. he can set the two different pressures that the nozzles pop at and get them balanced out nicely.

if you do this, tell him Growler sent ya

Unfortunately, with the nozzles on the way already, talking to that dude is out of the question... but what are the consequences of not having the injectors balanced?

Are we talking not reaching full power potential, or are we talking grenading my motor at the first hard launch with my extra 20 soot-spewing ponies?

if you dont get them balanced, you are leaving a small amount of power on the table, nothing else.

FYI, my injectors are not balanced either. but thats only because I got them used for a killer deal.

I swapped them myself.

I have an auto trans. If I read up right, that means my current injectors are already a wee bit larger than the stock 5-speed units.

Sorry bud, but you've got that backwards. The 5-speed has slightly larger injectors. I *think* it's to help keep from stalling the motor out for inexperienced clutch drivers.

The automatics have a larger Injection pump tht the 5-speed owners want to get their hands on. its a larger pump so that it can atomize the fuel thru those smaller injectors better.

stock 5 speed nozzles are a nice cheap upgrade from your stock automatic nozzles. and sprint 520s are a HOLY CRAP HANG ON TIGHT upgrade from the stock automatic nozzles. this is due to your larger fuel IP.

with proper tuning the sprints on an automatic are a real nice kick in the pants... altho you need to worry even MORE about your transmission once you start upgrading the motor.. sigh.

Growler, I realize this would be better asked over on TDIclub, buy why do they do this with the injection pump and nozzles?

What about for a PD engine? I'm assuming that it will use a different ones? After reading this thread, I am very interested in the MOD.

Give Paul and the gang over at Kerma a call. If anyone will know the answer to that question, it's them. My recollection about the Pump-Deuse motor is that it's much more expensive to replace nozzles than the earlier diesels, but I could be wrong.

I know that it would probably be about $100 per cylinder for my dad's Powerstroke... but that's a completely different beast.
