Hard to start ,after its been running

Hi,
The Beetle starts perfect ,but after you run it for a bit and shut it off it takes alot of rolling over to get her to start.
It always starts just takes longer.
Any ideas ?

yes, its a known issue with the 98-99 newbeetles & the 99.5 Jetta/Golfs with the TDI motor.

best way to fix it permanently is to get a chiptune.

the fuel maps on the early cars do not inject enough fuel when the motor is warm at startup.

no simple fix otherwise.

Yeah,my 99 takes a spin or two more to start when warm.its kinda like a hesitation at start,sounds bad to me,but I pay attention to eveeerry detail,every sound or rhythmatic sound pattern to assure proper running.I'm a little tweaked..since my last few bugs were 40yrs old,maintenance became a weekly ritual and I ened up spending more coin on my car than my gal.

Yep, my cousin's 99 NB is a hard starter after the engine is warm....... she just puts up with it.
