Coolant Temp Sensor

I am trying to find the coolant temp sensor on my 2002 TDI. The diagram from the parts house shows right side of motor in a hose that I can't find. Can anyone tell me where this sensor can be found. A picture would be worth a million. Is it hard to change out?

Facing engine low right side between firewall and engine.

Look here, picture taken between firewall and back of engine!

Newer Coolant Sensor

In order to get a good look at the sensor locaton you may need to remove your air filter box, etc. HTH!

wow, those pics were super helpful. Found mine as soon as i took the air box out. Pretty easy to change out, just remember that it is a plug and the moment it comes out so does the antifreeze so do it quick!

I had my check engine light come on and my scanner told me it was the engine coolant temp sensor. Changed it out and so far so good. I don't know why but it seems like the motor is running smoother too.
