Where is located the engine code?

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me, where is located the engine code on my 1,9TDi 66kW 2002 NB engine? I have to search for a new engine and I was told to search for an engine with code ALH. But I don´t know where to look for this code to be sure that I buy the right thing.

My Bentley manual says the engine codes are stamped in the block near the place where the transmission bolts to the engine.

The code "may" also be on the timing cover. I have also seen it on a sticker under the carpet in the trunk.

Keep in mind this is for American VW's. Yours may differ.

Also, there is only one code for the 2002 diesel engine--ALH.

You may also find it on a sticker on the driver's door jamb (near the seatbelt). My NB has a sticker there with the VIN, paint code, tranny code, engine code, etc, etc.
