When I bought my 4th beetle, I swore I would not do any modifications beyond changing the shift knob. 4 years later, I'm now thinking about some mods.
Mod 1: rear anti sway bar. I'm thinking about a Neuspeed 28mm or 25mm bar. I can't remember which one I had in my 2003 beetle but I know it had 3 settings possible. I had it on the middle one and loved it. Does anyone know for sure that either of these would fit on the 06? The Neuspeed website only goes to 2005. I would also like the billet engine caps - anyone know if these will fit my engine? It looks like a couple of them will for sure. I'm not sure that all of them will. I will not be considering lowering my car at all. Mod 2: I miss my Techtonics/Borla exhaust. I miss the rumble. What are my options with the TDI? Suggestions? I would really like to change out my wheels. This one I can handle. I'm still looking and hope to find something. Last but not least - is there a good website or 3 that have examples of various flamed cars? I will need to paint my car within the year. The feral cats and sand blasting I get has wreaked havoc on the front end. If I'm going to paint, I might as well consider doing something else.

Sue, the NB is on the same chassis from 1998-present. the rear sway bar you had will def fit on your 2006. nothing is any different under there.
if you are looking for photos of flamed cars, you found this one ![]() otherwise, do a google image search to try to find what you are looking for. there has to be lots of examples.

If you ask Michelle she will tell you to straight pipe the exhaust.
![]() I have actually heard of folks doing that before...remember TDITIM? I believe he straight piped his TDI and his TurboS...with the added stinger of course. I'll have to do some searching for ideas for paint for you. Some white on tan might be interesting with a purple or green pinstripe around for contrast comes to mind when I first think of your color. That would be a ghost flame of sort...but the pinstriping could make it pop. F-OFF - that's just wrong...don't let Sue (Caiobug) hear you say that. ![]()

Ghost flaming sounds very interesting. I like the idea. The Harvest Moon Beige has a lot of pink undertones in person. I like the idea of some kind burgundy to pink contrasting. I'm not a purple fan but maybe the right shade would be good. The raisin color that Honda used on one of their cars is very cool. I like it as well.
I don't want to do the very front end - mainly because of the rock chips. I would like to start a little further back on the fenders and go down the sides and ending up on the rear end. I'm not into old school like Earl's car. His is unique and I don't want to imitate his. Aaron - thanks for the heads up. I will be checking with Neuspeed to see which one would work for me. Anyone have an opinion on the 25mm vs 28mm? I want good handling but not so stiff that I'm uncomfortable. Remember - I have old bones. |

I personally think subtle ghost flames or the sort is the way to go with your beetle...but here are some others I am pulling from the internet to see if any tickle your fancy.
![]() Old school flame colors look pretty good on beige... ![]() You could do a two tone like this and have a simple running flame down the line between the two - I'll have to see if I can find an example of what I am thinking of...but this two tone combination could look cool. New Beetles - flamed/custom paint... From a Singapore NB ad...like these! ![]() Hate to say I don't recognize this one...maybe it was Magu v1.0? ![]() Real Flames... ![]() Pretty interesting... ![]() Check this forum/gallery out... http://translate.googleusercontent.c...l9dQAEO48edQQQ Last edited by marvins_dad; 05-06-2010 at 03:21 PM.. |

Yes, straight piping your exhaust is SUPER fun! Right now I'm 1/2 way done. no muffler for Probie.
I'm thinking of deleting the Cat as well, though some are against it....if you are then just get a high flow cat...it's pretty much the same. Sadly Diesel soot clogs cats quickly (tongue twister huh?! lol) and so I opt to delete it...I know I"m gonna get flamed for that. oh well.As far as flames....I think some charcoal grey flames would be HOT! I know your car is tan and has some pink undertones, so a cool color would look awesome. Anything with red or pink, will only bring out the pink tones in the beige color. If that's what your going for...then go for it. If you want to tone them down, think opposite side of the color wheel. as far as paint schemes...something like this would be cool....paint the roof and the fenders and rocker panels black... ![]() or better yet, what is that beetle that's black with the burgundy sides and color concept wheels? Something like that would be cool. Either keeping the car tan and adding sides like that, or making the sides tan and painting the car something else...i'll see if I can find a pic of what I'm thinking about...hang on.

Good lord I like that pink/black! That would be so awesome!
I will have to think about the cat and removing the muffler. Technically illegal here and I have to be inspected every year. I would have to think long and hard about it. Here's another look that I like. Very subtle. ![]() |

Not exactly the car I was looking for...but this gives you an idea. If you wanted to paint your top a different color like the old car I posted above, you could incorporate a flame or flames into the connection between the two colors.
Have some positive and negative flames like another car I will post when I find the image. ![]() Okay, here was the image I was looking for...not exactly what I remembered...but you can see where you could add a line of flames between the two colors. ![]() Here is what I was referring to as negative flames... ![]() I've always liked this look and his bug. Doesn't Luke also have something similar...negative flames? You could alternate negative flames with flames that drop from the line to create the line between the two colors. Edit - yeah, Luke's utilize negative flames...I attached an image. Last edited by marvins_dad; 05-06-2010 at 03:53 PM.. |

my golf is no cat, no muffler, 2.25" downpipe, 2.5" catback all custom stainless steel.. sounds like a jet when I start it up in the morning.,.. it does get a bit drony on the freeway tho, and for that reason I will most likely install an Aero muffler somewhere in the system just to quiet it down a touch.
stock vnt15 turbo. sprint 520 nozzles. no egr with racepipe. I know that sue has a different motor than mine and Antoines but many of the exhausts and things that can be done to the ALH can be done to the PD. just be aware of the DMF issues, and the PD Cam wear issues. |

I don't have to do emissions testing - that's reserved for Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and Houston. I do have to do the state inspection yearly and I know the place I use checks everyone's muffler because our local PD will give tickets for loud cars and motorcycles. Legally, you are supposed to have a cat.
I like the 2 tone look. Need to consider this. And find a decent painter. |

Besides ghost flames you could go really subtle with lots of Von Dutch striping...and incorporate flames into that.
Tulsa.... SCORCH PINSTRIPING OKLAHOMA TULSA « { Pin Striping } · · · » Pinstripers.org « Then you can throw in a Von Dutch flying eyeball somewhere and call it a day. ![]() ![]() |

Correct. just wanted to remind you about those common issues on your car. and Antoine already knows abut the auto tranny issues with his car. (and the all too common AC fan issues as well...) Michelle, how close are you to getting your 5-speed swap? |

Re Sway Bar
Get one from Shine racing. Really fantastic torsion bar, great handling and nothing hanging under your car to get hit by something in the road.
