problem with acceleration, etc

my car was having a hard time accelerating, running very high rmps, and stalling, and the check engine was on. took it in, and they said because we had just replaced the battery, the computer didn't recognize any codes, etc. they erased all codes, and it ran fine for a week, and then today the same thing happened. we have a hand held diagnostic, out it on, and the code for the speed sensor came on..husband earased the code, and now the car is fine once again. help, something must be wrong..speed sensor?? can't be driving down the highway and have it stall out! can't keep erasing codes either, anyone had this problem? it is a 2000 1.9..

It is impossible to answer your question based on the information you have given. What transmission? Auto or manual?

What codes are you getting specifically? I'm guessing this is a generic OBDII reader? They cannot read VAG-specific codes, so find someone with Vag-Com in your area to find out what is really going on.

Also, where are you located? I may be able to point you in the direction of a competent mechanic.
