So I started my car the other morning and after about 5 minutes walked back outside to get into it and noticed a huge puddle on the ground and fuel pouring out.
2000 NB GLS TDI Here is a video and a few pics. anyone ever have this happen and whats the problem? ![]() I noticed that after a few revs and then when at idle the fuel leak stops. Sorry I did what I could picture and video wise...it's hard to tell where its coming from. If anyone knows what this is can I fix it myself or should i take it to be done? Figured out the problem! heres what I need... ![]() The gasket is not for sale from VW. Is it with this kit? http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=443 And if not...where can I get it!? without having to buy a new pump? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Could it be the injector pump? 2003 and earlier TDI's: Chech your injection pump for leaks Last edited by BillyMagnum; 10-29-2010 at 04:53 PM.. |

Its definitely the injector pump. Not really a DIY project unless you are good mechanically and pay really close attention and be able to know what is going on.
Its hard to tell from your pics/video...but make sure that the 4 metal injector lines coming off the pump are tight. A couple mechanics near you to consider taking it: EuroZone (Hank & Dana's Import Repair) John & Stephen Kunu -owners Jeremy Hoover - TDI mechanic 16 West Pall Mall Street Winchester, Va 22601 (540) 662-6370 Winchester's Premier Import Auto Service Center for BMW, Audi, VW, Mercedes, Jaguar and Volvo - EuroZone - Winchester, Virginia 22601 F&P Auto Route 819 Hunker, Pa 15639 (724) 925-6456 Fred Petrella Chris Fisher - Car Tunes Crooked Creek Rd Huntingdon, PA 16652 (814) 643-3332

Is it drivable or should I trailor it? and If I purchase the parts ahead of time from dieselgeek about how much $ do you think I am looking at labor wise? Or should I just leave the parts and such to them? Thanks DZLBug -David |

IF you are going to attempt this...
Order this seal kit: http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=443 And order this one as well, it is the viton version of the pump head seal that is your main leak point. Viton is more resistant to biodiesel so it is the way to go. http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=430 You'll also need one of these: http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=440 And I would recommend doing this since you're going in there: http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=439 I posted the following over on TDIclub before today, figured I'd cross-post it here for anyone else who might stumble onto this thread: Here is a video series done by runonbeer and Jim from Dieselgeek: YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-1.mpg YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-2.mpg YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-3.mpg YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-4.mpg YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-5.mpg YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-6.mpg YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-7.mpg As you can see, it is a significant undertaking and there are some very important steps that you don't want to mess up on. Personally, I wouldn't want to tackle it alone the first time around...I would want help from someone who is experienced with it. And I'm not a stranger at working on my car either; I rebuilt the engine along with a timing belt job, and I swapped my transmission. This is just a bit above my pay grade. *Snickers*
Worst comes to worst, it's a good excuse to get a 11mm automatic's pump for some added power.... right?

well guys/gals...I've decided to take on the challenge myself and do a little DIY.
Just completed the top gasket and fuel temp sensor part...gonna tear down the rest and fix the actual problem when I get some time hopefully this week. The sensor seemed to help alot as the car started right up after a few turns and did not idle roughly anymore. But still pours out fuel until I rev the engine or it warms up a bit. Any tips or tricks before I take the full project on? lol and anyone in the Western MD area that would like to help? -David |
