Default Fuel Pouring Out at Start:(

So I started my car the other morning and after about 5 minutes walked back outside to get into it and noticed a huge puddle on the ground and fuel pouring out.
2000 NB GLS TDI
Here is a video and a few pics. anyone ever have this happen and whats the problem?
I noticed that after a few revs and then when at idle the fuel leak stops.
Sorry I did what I could picture and video wise...it's hard to tell where its coming from.
If anyone knows what this is can I fix it myself or should i take it to be done?
Figured out the problem! heres what I need...

The gasket is not for sale from VW. Is it with this kit?
http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=443
And if not...where can I get it!? without having to buy a new pump?

Could it be the injector pump?

Its definitely the injector pump. Not really a DIY project unless you are good mechanically and pay really close attention and be able to know what is going on.

Its hard to tell from your pics/video...but make sure that the 4 metal injector lines coming off the pump are tight.

A couple mechanics near you to consider taking it:

I checked the lines. They are fine. It has to be the seal on the pump below them?
Is it drivable or should I trailor it?
and If I purchase the parts ahead of time from dieselgeek about how much $ do you think I am looking at labor wise?
Or should I just leave the parts and such to them?
Thanks DZLBug

I would definitely trailer it, that is a bad leak.

As for labor cost, I'm not sure. If they have done the job before, all of those I mentioned should be familiar, it shouldn't be more than an hour or so of labor. As far as purchasing the parts, you'd have to ask the shop. Many shops won't warranty the work unless they source the parts.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

IF you are going to attempt this...
Order this seal kit:
http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=443
And order this one as well, it is the viton version of the pump head seal that is your main leak point. Viton is more resistant to biodiesel so it is the way to go.
http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=430
You'll also need one of these:
http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=440
And I would recommend doing this since you're going in there:
http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=439

I posted the following over on TDIclub before today, figured I'd cross-post it here for anyone else who might stumble onto this thread:

Here is a video series done by runonbeer and Jim from Dieselgeek:

YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-1.mpg
YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-2.mpg
YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-3.mpg
YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-4.mpg
YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-5.mpg
YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-6.mpg
YouTube - TDI-pumpseal-7.mpg

As you can see, it is a significant undertaking and there are some very important steps that you don't want to mess up on. Personally, I wouldn't want to tackle it alone the first time around...I would want help from someone who is experienced with it. And I'm not a stranger at working on my car either; I rebuilt the engine along with a timing belt job, and I swapped my transmission. This is just a bit above my pay grade.

If you take on this job, do not assume a new seal is going to fix it. In the past I have found tiny cracks in the housing, allowing leakage.

Its the seal. I have never seen or heard of any cracks forming in an injection pump. Are you a VW dealer mechanic?

well guys/gals...I've decided to take on the challenge myself and do a little DIY.
Just completed the top gasket and fuel temp sensor part...gonna tear down the rest and fix the actual problem when I get some time hopefully this week. The sensor seemed to help alot as the car started right up after a few turns and did not idle roughly anymore. But still pours out fuel until I rev the engine or it warms up a bit. Any tips or tricks before I take the full project on? lol and anyone in the Western MD area that would like to help? -David
