HELP! Lookin to buy 02 w/auto tran What should I be cautious about?

Hi we have a 98 Beetle TDI 5 speed and we hit a Deer the other night,,,,,,

Looking at a replacement Beetle 02 TDI with Auto 175,000 ish miles.

Never had a TDI with Auto are there any concerns and what should I be paying attention to?

Also is the the same engine as my 98?

Any concerns on the car other than I would already know from my 98?

The auto trans in the NB's are not that great to begin with. One with that kinda miles is gonna be problematic. Meaning for what you will spend on the car figure spending at least that much more on trans repair. I love TDI's, but hate the auto trans. This is the case in any NB with the auto trans, not only TDI's.

I'd advise swapping the manual from your 98 into the 02, to be flat out honest. The auto in the TDI is very weak and will fail. Did you keep the old car? Would you be willing to part it out? I could use some parts from it that are diesel-specific....
