Default How much is a new TDI engine?

Hey guys! I found this on eBay and was wondering how expensive it is to put in a new TDI engine? Is it a good or bad idea?

you can figure 2000 if you can find one complete in a salvage yard but I would caution you as it is an automatic and they tend to fail before 150k miles.

Somebody mentioned that when autotragic fails you can switch it to a manual. Why couldn't you do both at once - and would all this messing around be worth it in the end?

That is entirely dependant on if you DIY or pay thru the nose. I would have to say no. I would purchase myself as I have an extra car, time, ability and a little patience. For most people I would say no.

Personally, I'd just get a TDI with a manual. The time and money to swap a new TDI engine and swap to a manual just isn't worth it to me. But thats me.

Thanks guys - that's all I need to know! I am not very DIY when it comes to cars so I think I'll wait on a better deal.
