Default dog whistle turbo

So Ziggy has started to make a high pitched whistle under load in first and second gears from about 2100 to 3000 RPM. Could it be a hose or is it the Turbo breathing it's last? PS, for what it's worth, it's an '06.

Sounds like the turbo outlet hose is coming loose

Thanks DZLBUG. We checked it out and the little bracket is indeed there. Everything seems fine. We can't seem to find any hoses or anything that look cracked. I'm really fearing it's my turbo.

Just because the bracket is there doesn't mean the pipe isn't leaking. Look for soot staining.

Okay, thanks for the heads up. I don't remember seeing anything, but we'll look again. Also, we should have a video to post tonight.

So it turned out to be shaft play in the turbo. Since I'm still (barely) under extended warranty, we're just going to pay the $100 and have it fixed. So sad. My poor car is squealing. Also, since we're 99% sure this is the problem, is my car okay to drive back and forth to work?

$100 for a new turbo is a steal! How much for the warranty?

As for driving it I would say NO! If it starts puking oil you get a runaway, which since the turbo has been diagnosed as bad, could bite you if you trash an engine after driving away from the shop that told you this issue. I would get it replaced asap, its a steep downhill bomb for that turbo once the blades are hitting the housing.

So they FINALLY officially diagnosed it this morning at the dealership. They said it's just the downpipe on the turbo. I'm still skeptical, because to me, if that's the only problem, why was it whistling? Also, new starter! WIN!

And they just called again... It's NOT covered under my warranty.

EGR downpipe on turbo - $500 p&l

Starter - $450 p&l (Under warranty) $100 deductible

Coolant Temp Sensor $250 p&l

Brake Vacuum Pump and Seal $660 p&l

Grand total = $1510

And *expletive*

I can't afford that. I can't even afford half of that. I *might* be able to afford half of half. I can't find a decent mechanic that will work on diesels. FML. I guess I'll be walking to the new job.

They want $250 for the CTS? RIPOFF! Less than a $30 part. And if its anything like the 2.0, super easy to change out. Less than 15 minutes no question. Get your car out of there.

I would at least have them do the starter... You can't buy a new one w/ installation for 100 bucks anywhere...

That is true, but it drove it, why does it need the starter now?

I am having them do the starter because it's under warrranty, but I told them NOT to do any of the other work. We're currently calling every mechanic in Oklahoma city and Tulsa areas. I'll drive an hour if I have to. The CTS is a $10 part!!!!!!! We already knew about it and planned on doing it ourselves. The EGR downpipe and the vacuum pump... Way beyond my knowledge. $1500?! Unbe@#*&inglievable!Can you believe this horse*hockey*?! I'm in full mode expletive rigt now. I cannot believe the outrageous prices they're quoting me. There's a highly recommended VW mechanic here in the city, but he's soooooo overbooked it would be MONTHS before he could get to me. I'm at a loss right now. I guess time will tell. We'll figure something out.

Yeah I completely understand and agree w/ you...I have no clue why they say it needs it.

I was just simply saying I would fork out the 100 bucks to get the new one installed and out of that STEALERSHIP as quick as possible

I don't know if he does diesel but you should call Der German in Tulsa. If he can't help you he will probably have a recommendation on where you could find help.

Phone number is: 918-834-2234

Seeing as how tight money is, I may wait on the starter and take it to the better dealership in Norman later on. John, I called derGerman, they were very helpful. They quote me $445 compared to $660. WAY better, but still expensive. We're trying to weigh our options and figure out what to fix now, and what to wait on. The EGR downpipe isn't even an actual part according to derGerman though. So we're not really sure what to do about it. We've got calls out to several mechanics. We'll figure something out I'm sure. Jason, who do you recommend in Dallas? If the price is right, it's worth the drive.
