Default Broken drivers door micro switch bit me today

So my wife's Beetle (the 01 Blurple one) got me pretty good today.

We figured out about 2 weeks ago that it has a broken micro switch in the drivers door that tells the computer the door is open. We have both accidentally set the alarm off by unlocking the door, getting in, and doing something before starting the car. Since it doesn't register you opening the door, it automatically re-locks the door thinking you never got in if you don't start the car right away. Of course when you go to start the car after the doors have locked back automatically, the alarm goes off.

So anyway, I took her car to work today to fill up since Diesel is cheaper down in AL where I work. It was dark/foggy when I left and then light out once I got there, but I totally forgot about the lights being on. You can already see where this is going. Since it didn't know I opened the drivers door after I shut the car off, it never chimed on me. So 8 hours later, I come out to a dead beetle. Thankfully a co-worker was able to jump me off.

Guess we should start looking into how hard those switches are to replace.

Her airbag light just came on a couple days ago too out of the blue. Actually, it was after my wife thoroughly vacuumed out the inside of her car. From reading, it sounds like it could be a seat belt plug or sensor or something? I'm starting to think with 2 beetles, we really need a Vag-Com.

Good luck. I had the same problem when my drivers side one failed. Passenger side is dead now, but its not nearly as annoying.
