Driving 150 miles tomorrow to pick up a 2002 TDI Beetle manual. This will be my first experience with VW. The car has 122K miles and from what I could tell by the pics is in good shape. What do I need to look for? Thanks.

timing belt and water pump done? Check head gaskets to be safe, should be ok though. Keep an eye on the injector pump, not a problem with all beetles, but mine started leaking at 98k and wasn't a cheap fix

Welcome

Also check out TDI Club.com- CLICK HERE FOR THE LINK.

Many if not all of the TDI owners use TDI Club.com as their resource for maintaining and modding their TDI. I'm amazed at the performance that's generated from the nBTDI.

There's a couuple of TDI orgers you should keep in contact with. One is DZLBUG and the other is MichelleRoze. Both are knowlageable and can point you in the right direction.

Again welcome aboard. Don't be a stranger- keep posting, and especially with pics

2'nd for tdiclub.com great place, amazing resources.

definitely get info on the timing belt, and remember they can get pricey to replace but make sure if it needs it you get someone who will do it right, that doesn't always mean the vw dealership either. mine locally would not replace any of the accessory pulleys or the water pump with a metal one, so i did not take mine there.

good luck and i can try and help too but still learning. they are simple engines which is nice

Congrats on your purchase! I hang out a lot over on the TDIClub I'm still pretty new to these cars but I'm getting there in the knowledge department.
