Default Stumbling, missing, hicupping

2 weeks ago on the way home with the cruse set at 72mph the Beetle stumbled a few times. I thought the fuel filter might be getting dirty, even though it was changed 6 months or about 10,000 miles ago. On the way to autozone it stumbled several times at 30mph or while accelerating. I also picked up a bottle of Diesel Purge. I filled the new filter with the Diesel Purge and replaced. It seemed to help. I also put a bottle in the fuel tank. It seemed to help. Then 100 miles later after a stop at a fuel station it stumbled about 4 or 5 times, then ran fine for the next 200. Tonight after about a 150 miles at 60mph I jumped on the interstate and got up to 72 and again stumbling real bad. Dropped the speed to 63mph and ran fine. Once off the interstate it started stumbling as soon as I accelerated but then would run fine once up to 55 and holding.

The injectors only have 10,000 miles on them as well as a brand new Fuel Filter. It is not throwing any code. I have had older Gas vehicles that acted like this when they were sucking air, but I don't know if this could be the problem here.

As it happens under load it seems to be fuel pump related, can you check fuel pump pressure? When was the last time you replaced the air filter?

I just went and did a little beat run to see if I could get it to throw a code. Might not have been a good idea but it worked. It threw code P1246 and is stumbling all over its self.

After doing a lot of searching this weekend I found a few posts about similar issues were they talked about the #3 injector sticking and to do a Diesel purge and to tap on the injector. I did this this morning and the car went from not running hardly at all to running great. I put about 50 miles on it and the problem did not come back.

I then felt safe enough to head across the state. 200 miles later it started again. not as bad as before but still bad enough.

New sign this time though. It threw code P1246 but this time the Glow Plug light started blinking as well.

Any Ideas?? Maybe try the Diesel Purge straight into the injectors again, but this time use real Diesel Purge and not the stuff i could find at Walmart on Memorial Day morning??
