2000 TDI tried to start, now won't turn over
Hi guys, just want out to start up the car this morning for my trek to work. Rained a bunch last night (probably insignificant).
Anyways, went to start her up, cranked hard for a second (normal), then nothing. No odd noises. Now when you try to start, nothing. No cranking. Usual dash lights are on. I am going to check the timing belt (God I hope not) and misc fuses. Thinking its the fuel pump?

Checked a few things
- Timing belt seems fine. - Oil level fine - Fuses (although truthfully I am not sure which ones I should be checking) all appear fine. Any reliable way to test the starter?

Do you hear a click at all when you try to start it? Battery good?

No click, nothing. Battery seems fine, all headlights, signals, fan going at full speed.
I finally got the bugger out, bench tested it. Grounded starter to battery, hooked possitive up to large possitive in on starter... Ran a smaller wire from same possitive on battery to smaller possitive terminal on starter.. nothing but a small spark.

A few questions...
What's the mileage? Anything unusual prior to the no start? Cup, my beetle suffered the same thing- she jumped timing and bent valves. She's a 1.8t, but there's an orger, MichelleRoze who owns a TDI and suffered the same thing you're going through. Her issue was pretty much like mine. I really, really hope that your beetle isn't going through the same thing- i wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Please keep us posted on what's up.
