Default Need a Reman Head or?? NOT THE INJECTION PUMP

Well its been a few months since the lil ole bug decided not to run to well with 130K on it it seemed like the injection jump was making a ton of noise and so had intended to take it off and send it to Or. to get remaned.

Well today i got a chance to get out there and get the injection pump off.

took the belt cover off.
the and got the timing lined up.
took the valve cover off and started to take the pump on the end of the cam and noticed that there wasnt anything under the #3 cylinder cam lodes.>>>Hummmmm
Well after looking closer and taking the cam off...we have aluminum worm damage aka chewed up head

Well now i dont know what would be my best bet......
Im asking for a little advice here its an old bug and not worth a ton of money so i dont want to spend a ton on it..
Could i just take it off and have it polished up?
Looks a lil beat up to do that though.
what about a new head gaskets lifters so on.
NOW why did the lifters blow out like that? Would they do it again?
The others are almost ready to blow too..
WHY??

Would love some advise on this.... Im on a fixed income and times arnt that great. I love this little car and it saves me a ton in fuel cost.
Thanks

Timing belt ever been changed?

The most common cause of this is a belt that has slipped time, pistons hit valves, valves mushroom the lifters, lifters fall apart and chew up the bores and cam.

The head needs serious rebuilding or replacement. The lifter bores can be repaired, how do the cam saddles look? The head needs to come off. Where are you located in TX? There is an excellent machinist in MO who does great work, you could send the head to him for repair and he will send it back with all the parts you need for reassembly. Dont just trust any machine shop, I tried that and I ended up doing the job twice.

How are your mechanical skills? If you are fairly confident and can read instructions (Bentley manual and how-to's on TDIclub), and you get the right tools, then you can do the job yourself. I'll get you his contact info if you'd like. I can also get you contact info for some good TDI mechanics in TX, just let me know where you're at.

Was timing belt work done? Like DZLBUG said, this is caused by the belt skipping one tooth and causing piston to valve contact. I'm betting you IP is fine.

If you decide to replace the head, please stay away from the Chinese parts. There is one VERY notorious person on e-bay.

Good luck
