Red face A Very Honest opinion of my 1.9TDi

As many of the regulars on here know, i (maybe too much) Love my Bug(s)

My first was a 1.6 SR Bug. I don't think the color or combination of customization fits to this thread, so i'll just say it's a 1.6

I had it chipped or re-mapped and thought it accelerated better

Sadly all my work that i did to that Bug, broke my heart when i cracked the sump and seized the engine Off to ebay it went

2001 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE BLACK (Seized engine) | eBay UK

Hopefully you can still see that link as i can

So then, after years of reading about the 1.9TDi and how much power it had and the fuel consumption that was my next port of call There was never a moment in my mind that thought i'd choose another model or make of car.

I new i wanted the Alaskan Green or Platty Grey. Lucky for me i found an Alaskan I never new it was never released in the U.S. either.

I took it for a test drive with the, then owner. And guess what i did when i hit a straight part of road ? Yes I put pedal to the metal and used that turbo i never had And i was VERY DISAPPOINTED I felt the turbo kick in but not what i expected

Never mind, i bought it as i new i was going to do some engine changes anyway And i had read from years on New Beetle forums that the TDi is the best for engine mods

I had it 3 days before the new owners of my previous Bug came and paid cash Then as i new the U.K.'s best chipper John@DNATUNING (Always had a laugh with him before he became famous) I didn't book it in, i just called him and said i'm coming round, can you do the remap ? Obviously he said YES

Even though he was now 80 miles away i drove to see him and got it done

Oh My God !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was like i had a new engine installed

The original BHP is said to be 105BHP and i new the new chip would add 45-50BHP more, but i never thought of what a difference that would be. From a 1.6 previous Bug owner NOW i feel the power

Now lucky for me i have a friend of my parents who has a seriously long driveway He owns many a car that only lottery winners can dream of I went to visit him one day, but only because i could use his drive for something non legal

The bookmark figure of 110 mph was wiped from the memory during the remap i guess. As here in the U.K. the motorways are full of people doing 140 + on a daily basis. You can sit at the limit of 70 mph (Conserving diesel because i'm not made of money ) And people fly by like your standing still

I did 110 and it wouldn't accelerate any more than that on a racing circuit here. 120 and i felt it still had plenty there, so maybe 130 ? Trouble is i needed to brake before i hit my friends garages

Thing is though, driving with the chip, it's nice to have that power when needed So much more responsive. When i ask for power i am granted with power Like overtaking a truck on a one lane road, you want to do it as quickly and safely as possible

Now i want to get the hybrid turbo. Another 50 BHP Although i have read you should really get the intercooler first. Why the sad face ? Because i'm not made of money. My girlfriend uses up more of my money now (Although she pays her way too) But you know

So i would love to get that extra power, along with the leather interior and new head unit and and and and and .....

Just thought i'd share my new TDi with you all

Loving it

But without the chip ? Pointless

I got mine chipped as well but with 18" wheels I did not felt any big change.

Only the gears shifts are more quicker

My engine is completely stock so I can't remember the last time I accelerated quickly in my TDI! I find right off the line it's quick but that quickness diminishes very shortly after. Getting it up to highway speeds takes a nice gentle steady right foot.
