Default 2003 Jetta 1.9 diesal won't start

2003 Jetta 1.9 diesel. Rebuilt head new timing belt. All timing is correct. getting fuel to injectors but won't start. Will run with either starting fluid or diesel to the intake. Don't see how injectors allow fuel to pass through. Pulled one injector out and reconnected it to the fuel line cranked it over but nothing came out of the injector. What would cause all four injectors no to allow fuel to pass through?

are you 100% sure that you are getting fuel to the injectors? to me it sounds a little bit like your pump is not primed. do you have a mityvac that you can verify that the pump is primed?

No mityvac. When I disconnect the fuel lines one at a time from the injectors all four are getting fuel. I will try primimg the pump again.

i wouldn't know why all 4 would be doing this at once that is why i'm kinda thinking fuel pump. now possibly some bad news, i'm not certain without specialized tools that you can actually test the injectors yourself.

Check out the forums on TDIclub. If you look in the TDI101 section, there is a sticky near the top that has a no-start troubleshooting thread.

Most likely scenario, you pinned the injection pump in the "sucker hole." Very common mistake. You did use the correct lockdown tools, right?

Oh and btw, never EVER use ether on a TDI. That is a great way to crack the head or pistons, break rings or bend rods. DON'T DO IT. The car will start if everything is done correctly.

Okay...I just re-read more carefully. So the injectors are getting fuel but aren't popping? How long were they out of the engine? How did you store them? Ideally they should have been submerged in a container of diesel.
