1.9 TDI fuel filter

I saw a fuel filter in a mail order cat. that fits the 2000 beetle 1.9 TDI. It has what they call a "permanent T". I assume that is in the place where the fuel control valve "T" goes. Can you replace the normal filter (which has the removable "T"), with the filter that has the permanent "T"?

everybody has filters for the 1.9 already, why exactly would you want to replace something you can get anywhere with something you are going to have to mail order.

sorry i'm just trying to understand why you would do this.

The only aftermarket filter kit that is any good is the Cat filter. Even then, I never could justify it.

Because I damaged the control valve when I changed the filter. It leaks now. So, I can either take it in the shorts from the dealer for the OEM replacement, or I can buy from a mail-order at a reasonable cost. I thought if the other filter works, I could eliminate that problem in the future. The last time I paid $28.00 per qt. for P/S fluid, I sore I would never go back to the dealer. But, you didn't answer my question. It's really a simple one.

Will it work??

You have other options when it comes to parts...plenty of online parts retailers that sell OEM for much cheaper than the dealer.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Online parts, many, many Resellers who sell the same OEM parts sold by the Dealers, that are deeply discounted. Many ARE VW Dealers who are online with parts. You can also use this pricing to negotiate with your Dealer for parts pricing. You do however have to be careful, as many places call there parts OEM, meaning instead of the assumed, manufactured by the Original aftermarket Equipment Manufacturer (a little devious play on words). There are also knock off parts that even bear the VW/Audi logo and part number that are not the real McCoy.

As to your specific question, certainly nothing wrong with inquiring to the membership, I would have expected better answers than suggesting you don't buy "mail order" (h_2_o's second posting may be more helpful, and much more in line than the first), or than to stay with an OEM part. There are many aftermarket solutions that better the original. On the other hand there are those that are pure junk. What better place to obtain someone else's experience than here on the Org. Just stay tuned, perhaps someone will happen along with direct experience and be able to give you some guidance.

I order the Fuel Filter Tee with the filter pack set at IdParts. I think I'm at a 50% success rate for removing that stupid piece of plastic.

The steeler price is around 40 bucks.


If I was going to do something, I'd use the Cat filter.
