Default Oil Filter Cost

Hello, I just bought an oil filter and a pollen filter from the dealer for my 2003 TDI, cost for the oil filter was $11.80 and $25.23 for the pollen filter. Do these prices sound about right? When searching the threads I have seen lower prices. Just curious.
Thanks, Bob

I bought a 10pack of oil filters for $65 shipped off TDIparts.com. The pollen filter is right though. With 3 TDIs in the family, the 10pack comes in handy.

Impex has the TDI oil filter for $6-7, and the pollen filter for about $12. On the oil filter, make sure you get one with (a) the two O-rings and (b) the internal one way baffle. I just bought a Hengst with the above specs for $6. They also have the air filter with the extra layer (for cold climates) for $12. Check them out, they are TDI'ers too: www.worldimpex.com

You may also want to try www.metalmanparts.com
I buy my kits from him and they include oil, fuel, air, and cabin filter for $60 shipped.

How can you tell which of the filters on the Impex site have the one-way baffle? I can see which ones have the two o-rings since there is a picture. Other than that, their written descriptions are minimal.

Thanks

You're right. You sort of have to have seen them first hand to be able to tell what you see on the pics. If you can tell from the pic that it has an up and a down side, then it has a baffle.

My experience from Impex:
Mann - does not have baffle.

OEM - with baffle.
Hengst - with battle.

And yes, you want to change the two litle o-rings every time you change the oil filter.

Just the Mann from Impex? All Mann filters? I thought Mann was where it's at. I've bought them from a couple different places off TDIclub.

Well that's what I thought and that is where I purchased it one time.

The MANN HU 726/2X has the baffle. The old number was HU 726/1X and did not have the baffle. I doubt these are available anymore.

Default NAPA filters ?

I just looked into filters and priced them at Walmart and NAPA. Walmart was 12+ and NAPA gold filter is 9+. I'm going to price out an OEM at VW.

Anyone have any comments remarks about NAPA gold filters for the TDI? I'm guessing they will be the least expensive, and I would rather support NAPA than VW.

4/26

OEM VW 8.25 Wow. VW with an underprice. Going to have to check them both now.

4/28

Broke down and bought the VW OEM for the least $$$. Figured it was the safest bet.
