I replaced the turn signal switch. The ticking stopped. I'm jumping for joy.!!! Still haven't pulled the codes. I saw the steering angle sensor when I pulled the steering wheel off. looks like a simple replacement job, but I think that it needs to be programmed after installation. thinking about bypassing the seatbelt sensor with a resistor. I fnally made some progress. Awesome.

First things first. Let's make sure you know what the codes are. Take your car by Autozone and let them run a scan. It's no charge! Write down the codes and post them. Autozone will not clear codes, however you can if you ask the man to let you do it.....Once you clear the code, scan again and see if it comes back....Stealerships will tell you anything. Don't trust them!

Hi Lew, thanks for your help

I called o'Reiley's and asked if they could run a scan and pull the codes for me and they said " No, we leave that to the professionals". I went to Autozone and they ran a scan and no codes came up. I kind of figured that would be the case, I've had issues with this autozone before. But, I figured that I'd tackle the seatbelt latch first. I took a good look at it and found that the four wires going into the latch are broken ( I'll try to attach a pic ). I see that you own an 05 GLS TDI like mine, awesome car isn't it? Do you know where I can get a reasonably priced replacement seat belt latch?

I ordered a new seat belt latch from the stealership in Lubbock today. I got it for $96.00 shipped. sounds like a pretty decent deal. It should be here in a couple of days. I also found an awesome DIY thread on removing the seat. Feel like I'm one step closer to solving these anoying electrical problems. Once I get this one knocked out, I can start looking into trying to fix the steering angle sensor problem.

It's not a bad job. I got a whole clock spring from eBay for under $100 shipped, dropped it in and reset the codes. It's fine to this day.

This isn't a really common problem, it's not really a wear and tear item. Make sure the part numbers match that's really important. Call the dealer, give them your VIN and get the part number for the clock spring your car needs and shop for that specific PN.

It's kind of funny you replaced that latch. All you're fixing is the idiot light in the cluster but if it's worth $96 to you then all the power to ya!

I wonder what the 3rd wire is for. Both of my NB's use 2 wires for the belt latches.

The latch I replaced actually had 4 wires. You can see the yellow wire sticking out under the green wire in the pic.It broke off inside the latch. seems like I read somewhere that two wires are for the seatbelt alarm/idiot light and two are for the airbag system. I changed outthe latch today. Not too difficult but I had to buy another 12 point triple square bit. I found a set of four at O'reillys
for $4.99. The airbag light is still on though. I guess I will have to get it cleared.
