Default Looking for a pic or two of a Panzer skid plate installed.

In the next week or so(when my Grand Cherokee gets the deer damage fixed) our Beetle goes to get the timing belt done on it. I plan to change the oil in it and I am also ordering a Panzer skid plate for it. I believe this will be the best option for our Beetle as we live in Amish country and drive mostly rural type roads. We don't plan to run Dee-Bug in the winter except in emergencies like now.I have looked at the ground clearance and it make me a bit nervous. A simple snow clump looks like a bad situation.I have decided since the OEM is non existent and about as expensive for what you get,I will opt for the Panzer. I contemplated the ID one,but have had several Beetle guys steer me from it. I know price is allot more, but for that little extra thickness,it may be helpful. I would like to see some actual pics of them installed on owners cars instead of the websites.. Anyone help me out??

There's a few pics on this forum, as well as tdiclub, the tdi guys are WAY more protective of the oil pan than most.

Didn't find what I was looking for,but I opted to get a Panzer plate and side pieces from Dieselgeek. Shipped 1/29 and supposed to be here Thursday..Gonna wait till I get Dee bug back from the timing belt job,put it in the garage for the remainder of the winter and install the plate, change fuel filter and clean the intake tube so it's ready for the spring..

FWIW, here's a few snaps after I put one under my '99 TDI. I did not add the side plates. It is an essential part of any low-slung 1.9 VW - it does its job well!

Check out the Evolution Skid plate, it's the best. It's been on the wife car for several years. It has a removable plate to access the oil drain plug.

yea, the Panzerplate has a removable cover too - the main idea is just how important it is for 1.9 TDI oil pans to get some armor!!

Hello,

here are some things to consider if you want to get a panzer plate.

1 either cut a hole in it to get to your oil filter and drain plug ( defets the purpus as you get it to protect and cutting a hole in it leaves areas unprotected).

2 drop the plate every time you need to change the oil. this is not a problem if you do your own oil changes but if you take it somewhere to have it done. They may have an issue doing this for you? If they dont mess it up, they may charge extra to do this step.

3 i like them for the protection! they are a pain to work around but well worth the savings of tearing up things like the oil pan etc.

good luck keep us posted please.
