New in April 06: Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 5W40

***For non-PD TDI's: This news applies to our TDI's in the US if and only if they are model year 2003 or before.

Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5w40, which was rated API CI-4 for diesels and was marketed also for gasoline SUV's, is now being replaced by two products:

1) Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5W30 ---> for gasoline engines.

2) Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W40 ---> for diesel engines.

The 5w40 version will be rated API CI-4 "plus" for diesels and is said to be available this April 2006. If anyone finds where it's being sold, please post!

The 5w-30 is on the shelf at Wal Mart of all places. Would expect the 5w-40 to follow in a month or so. Until then, there is nothing wrong with the current 5w-40.

I got this response from Mobil customer service regarding M1 TD 5w40 distribution:

Wal-Mart, Autozones, Pep Boys, Advance Autopart Stores, www.avlube.com all have the availability to the Mobil1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W40 motor oil.

Last I checked, local Wal-Marts do not stock yet M1 Turbo Diesel 5w40. Local PepBoys have never carried Mobil's fully synthetic Delvac-1 5w40 or M1 Truck&SUV 5w40, so I doubt they will sell M1 Turbo Diesel 5w40.

Anyone see the new CI-4 plus rated, fully synthetic, Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 5w40 stocked somewhere, please post!

Have not seen any on the shelves yet. But, have seen Delvac-1 in its new bottle. Not sure I like the shape of the new bottle.
