The New Beetles don't have a temperature gauge so when you first start it, you will see a blue thermometer until the engine warms up. You're supposed to be gentle with it until the light goes off. I remember the first new beetle I had...My first thought when I started it after I bought it was "oh great, I've had it for 12 hours and I already broke it!!! )

Just as d_merry said, don't worry about the blue light. Your fine unless your light turns red. All that info is in your manual...

My wife did the same on her beetle, it was alright till the Blue light was flashing just after we got it. It appeared that the stealership, did not check the coolant level which was down alittle bit causing the blue light to flash, if this happens check the fluid level and add to the line. Use the correct coolant!
But the blue light solid is normal if it goes out after the engine is warm.
