Engine dies, wont start NO ERROR CODES

Weird problem..

In the shop now..

Runs fine for 30 minutes or so, then dies.. Engine cranks, wont start up...

Connect VAG-COM, no codes no error, ...

We found a kink in the fuel line from the gas tank to the fuel filter.. Replaced. also replaced the fuel filter...
( $500 bucks )
Drove out of the shop, and died in the lot....

Still no codes...
Checked the fuel pressure, about 35 psi... Good

Fuel pump seems ok, Fuel Relay seems ok.. Would generate errors if bad....

What else???
any ideas out there????

Would a bad ECU cause this???

Why would the engine die... with no codes??? ( kinda like its running out of gas...)

Mhmm.. how about your injectors or maybe your Mass airflow sensor is out.

if the fuel injectors were:

bad
dirty
clogged

would there be any error codes for that???

Power supply relay crapping out thus shutting off the ECM, thus no faults since the ECM is turned off. I know this can happen on the mk3 VWs, and I think it may apply to the mk4s as well.

Check your distributor/coil. Same as one of the threads here. If this is not holding electricity, car will die when it get's hot...It also won't give out an error code.

They drove the car while VAG-COM connected and data logging..

The car "stumbled" or hesitated while going up a hill.

the data stopped logging to the computer from the ECM.
the car picked up after a few seconds and the data returned...

This sounds like a power supply relay!!

They want to change the ECU!!

$350 part +$200 labor...

the relay should be a couple of bucks....
