Default Christine?

What's this mean?

I was at a stoplight and my engine was revving by itself. In drive with the brakes applied it was about 1500 rpms and when I put it into neutral it went to 3500 rpm and kept bouncing between 3000 and 3500 rpm.

After a quick freeway jaunt it was normal idle in my driveway.

What is doing this? It happened once before.

Thanks,

James

Automatic or manual? I've seen this occur before but I don't recall what the solution was.

Temp sensor, makes sense. My temp light blinked on a little when i first started the car and went off about 30 seconds later. Interesting. Thank you.

If you drive an automatic...it could be the temp sensor or the MAF sensor. Try changing out the Temp sensor ($19 bucks) and clean out the MAF with MAF cleaner by CRC products ($5 or $6). Mine did the same thing. Although mine was a 5 speed, it did the trick, and my light never blinked again, the ruff idle stopped, and my mileage shot back up like it was new, well almost new LOL!

P.S.

Was it blinking blue in color...if it was red in color...be sure to check the fluid level. If the fluid level is fine...I would do a radiator flush and install a new Temp sensor & clip. No problems for me after that!
