Default 2.0 auto questions

Hey guys, have had my 2001 2.0 auto bug for 4 years now, and still love it! She has 110,000 miles and still goes strong, but have a couple of questions.....

1) Hole in mystery hose-The black hose that connects to the side of the oil filler cap neck, it looks like it goes to the intake tube? Mine has split on its own and looks like its leaking out oil, i knwo this is not good for 2 reasons, oil pressure, and oil loss. What does this hose do, and how much is it to replace?

2) Seafoam treatment? What is it, what does it do, and should I do it to my car? I heard its good for the "top end" of the engine, but how would i put it in the engine, the oil, also, what brand do I get? Any input?

Thanks in advance for the help, hope I wasn;t to vague on the identification of the black mystery hose, as soon as I get a digital camera i will take pics of it, thanks!!

1.That's PCV hose.It reroutes engine oil vapor to the intake for environmental sake. Not a serious problem, get it from the dealership.
2.read this http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUpTechGas.htm
I would recommend against it as it's very strong detergent.

I disagree. I use seafoam in both my oil and gas tank and it cleans both out very well!

Add it to your oil 1000 miles or so before a change is due and it will give your engine a thorough cleaning!

Drop 1/2 can in the oil and the other half on the gas tank when you go to fill up.

Seafoam is the brand name. You can get it at places like Autozone and other car places.

Regarding the hose, it's no biggie, it won't affect your oil pressure and you will probably only lose minimal amount of oil if any. I wouldn't worry about it unless it is seeping onto the floor or causing a mess.

Ill try and find a better place to buy that hose from and get back to you if i find it. May not cost all that much through the dealer though.

I recommend slow cleaning process, i.e. use synthetic oil and fuel system cleaner. If you have sludge in your engine and seaform dissolves it right away. You'll be in a big trouble. Remember oldschool method of adding ATF before changing oil, seafoam does the same thing. Just my .02

Ok, so back from the dead this one is. I finally found the hose tha I was looking for, its part of a three piece set from the dealer, I just got the hose. It was 15 dollars. My question on the seafoam is still out to debate tho. My 2.0 now has 118000 miles, is it safe to put seafoam in? The reason why I ask is I have noticed a little loss in power, and I think the seafoam might help it. Where do you put it into the crankcase at, before throttle body through vaccuum hose? Thanks in advance!

Ok I know this isnt on a Bug but I used two cans on Seafoam on my Grand Prix (96 @ 70k miles). I used the master cylinder vacuum line and VERY ... VERY slowly poued a VERY, VERT tiny bit in at a time while also giving her a bit og gas as not to die. She smoked like a buring train wreck. After half the can was gone I killed it and let her sit for about 10 minutes.. then I ran it up the road until the smoke quit. My God man! I looked very similar to the mosquito truck... only on Roids. Of course it was funny as hell because all these other cars would either slow way down or pass me quickly. After about 2 miles the smoke had totally cleared. but alas I think my rings are shot because the high only lasted for like 5-6 fillups. However I developed no block leaks and this was on a Gm ride so beware.
