Exclamation Noisy Engine Problem. Help!

Hi,
I have a 98 newbeetle. When I started it this morning, there is a very noisy sound coming from the engine. It is loud enough that I dare not to drive it.
Any possible reasons? It was running all fine yesterday.

Did you open the hood to pinpoint the area it's coming from? We'll need more info.

The sound is from somewhere near the engine. I checked the oil level. It looks normal. My friend has the device to check the error code. It did give a P0605 error code when we checked it.

Did it sound like a sick vacuum cleaner and then stop after 90 seconds or so? If so, it's probably the secondary air pump.

ummm...I had my friend check over. He thinks there might be a leak in the exhaust system. I will have it inspected in the workshop tomorrow......
