Default HELP!!! Oil Leak

I changrd my oil and filter, now I have a leak. It appears to be coming from the back side of the filter. I checked the Bentley manual, and it appears there is a seal on top of the oil cooler, could it have loosened when I removed the filter? The filter was pretty tight. Should I try replaceing the seal, or look for some other option? The oil will leak down, usually puddles up on the block then drips down onto the shield. I even tried replaceing the oil filter again just incase I got a bad one. It dosen't leak on a short drive (5-10 miles), but on the 30 mile drive to work it starts leaking.
Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

The filter should have had a seal attached to it - if it is missing then the filter will leak oil. The filter should not be overtightened as this can distort the filter sealing surface and cause a leak. I'd be inclined to buy a new filter and instal it.
Good Luck.

I've got the same issue on my '99 2.0. My dealership has changed the filter on 2 different occassions, thinking I happened to get a bad filter, but the leak has continued afterwards this time. I'm thinking the bracket that the filter mounts to is where my problem is. When I get some more money and it's time for another oil change, I might have them change that, too. It looks like there are only 2 bolts holding it on.

Also, I think there's a seal between the bracket and the engine, so it could just be that going bad. I'll let you know if I find anything!

make sure the old rubber o ring from the last filter didnt stay stuck on the flange because it will blow out and dump all your oil in seconds!!!! check the old filter and see if its on there.

That "bracket" is the oil cooler. It is possible that the bolt in the center has become loose, and the seal between the top of the cooler and the block is leaking. Next time the filter is off, check the bolt for tightness.

Thanks for the info, hannaco! I guess that makes it even more important to make sure it stays on there.
