Default A/C Woes

My 1999 beetle ac works great for a while but when the engine temperture reaches 204 degrees the clutch will not kick in on the compressor. let the car cool down and the same thing happens, is there a relationship with engine temperture and ac operation?

MORE INFORMATION: After sitting overnight I started my Bug and the Blue water temp light came on. The A/C compressor was enguaged and cooling but the cooling fans were not running. After five min. the blue light went out. The fans started cycling on and off. After fifteen min. the A/C compressor disenguaged and the original condition is still happening. Are the Fans supposed to run when the A/C Compressor is enguaged? All A/C fuses check good. HELP!

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think there is a 2 wire coolant temp sensor in one of the coolant hoses (left/driver's side of the engine bay). Said 2 wire temp sensor is directly to the AC and if coolant gets too hot, AC will cut out to reduce the load on the engine. If such is the case with your car, maybe swap out that sensor and see what your results are.

I don't know if this will be of any help...but Casper's A/C would make the most GOD AWFUL sound...and the clutch was not running.

The compressor has since died and I'm being quoted a $1k fix EVERYWHERE.
