If you lift up the carpet in your trunk, there is a label under there that gives all the info on the car, including the engine code.

I remember that my label was missing on my beetle, so I checked my carfax... nodda. So I ended up just asking the dealership. Then I wrote it on a post it note and can't find it... guess Ill have to ask the dealership again LOL

There's only one way to be sure. Rip off your engine cover, and you'll see a sticker on a plastic cover just to the left of your intake manifold...

almost there...

a little closer...

BAM!

Hahaha, last time I was with my friend who had a TDI golf, I went into the gas station and got a soda. I told the clerk (who was a young kid) I think that women is putting diesel in her car! The kid almost stopped the pumps, he got on the intercom and started yelling at her to stop!

When I got back out to the car I almost pee'd my pants laughing... she was just a little ticked at me. But it was soooooo funny. Thats the only time Ive done that. I promise!!!

Okay my engine number starts with "AQY". It's a 2000 model beetle European edition.

Here is a lil info I found on the Vortex: Vortex Engine Code

Volkswagen Engine Info
Engine Code: AWD
Model Years: 2000 (11/99 on)
Compression Ratio: 9.5:1
Horsepower (SAE Net): 150hp @ 5700RPM
Torque: 155ft. lbs.@ 1750RPM
ECU: Motronic ME7.5
DP Size: 55mm (2.17")
Turbo: K03
OE Boost: .6 Bar (8.7psi)

Engine Code: APH
Model Years: 2000
Compression Ratio: 9.5:1
Horsepower (SAE Net): 150hp @ 5500RPM
Torque: 155ft. lbs.@ 1950RPM
ECU: Motronic ME7.5
DP Size: 50mm (1.97")
Turbo: K03
OE Boost: .6 Bar (8.7psi)

Engine Code: AWW/AWV
Model Years: 2001 (07/00 on)
Compression Ratio: 9.3:1
Horsepower (SAE Net): 150hp @ 5700RPM
Torque: 162ft. lbs.@ 1950RPM
ECU: Motronic ME 7.5
DP Size: 50mm (1.97")
Turbo: K03s
OE Boost: .6 Bar (8.7psi)

Engine Code: AWP
Model Years: 2002+ (06/01 on)
Compression Ratio: 9.5:1
Horsepower (SAE Net): 180hp @ 5500RPM
Torque: 174ft. lbs.@ 1950RPM
ECU: Motronic ME7.5
DP Size: 50mm (1.97")
Turbo: K03s
OE Boost: .8 Bar (11.6psi)

2nd O2 sensor on AWD can be tapped for A/F gauge

AWP engines lack Fuse 6

AWD had slightly different fitting coilpacks, they use clips and allen keys to be secured.

The AEB engine code(non-dbw) has the largest intake ports and consequently is one of the most in demand head's to put on our cars.

APH engines have a "baby" K03 turbo--not same as Golf and TT

APH engines have the 2L exhaust

APH engines have a smaller Intercooler (even smaller than Golf part). Less air through turbo = less boost.

APH engines have Small Injectors, and 3 bar Fuel Pressure Regulator (sufficient for 150HP that’s it; maybe 160 max.)

That's an interesting read Monica. Did you see anything about the other engine codes? AEG, AZG, etc.? I always forget what engine i have. Still, it's written at all those spots around the car so it's not hard to figure out.

Hehe when I posted I didn't notice that I was in the 2.0 thread so all those above won't include you guys.

The AEG is the only engine in the 2.0 lineup that still has the throttle-by-cable system. All later engines use the Drive-By-Wire system. Thus, EPC is not available for the AEG engine code

Om - why rip off the engine cover? Just have a look in your handbook / service book - the engine and transmission code is noted there (I think on the first few pages somewhere)... This might not be the correct code if the engine was exchanged once... If it wasn't - it's the right one.

They may not have the handbook or service book. I know what mine is because I saw it stamped on the engine and NOT under the engine cover. So there are several ways to find it. Now they have the option on how they want or are able to find it.

OK.

So an AZG is simply a Low Emmisions version of a Super Ultra-Low Emmisions AVH with 1 more Knock and 1 more O2 sensor.

That clears things up a bit for me. Thanx!
