Hey all, I'm new here and tried to search for this topic and could not find it anywhere...

I was told by the dealer that I need a new MAF. I have a 99 beetle i just got used. It has about 58k miles on it.

I was wondering how difficult it is to change one of these out if i buy it myself?

any suggestions? tips?

Have your VIN handy, call the dealer and ask them if it's under warranty? My '99 was covered under warr. for a bad MAF just last year...

If not covered, it is very simple to change. You just need a Phillips screw driver to take out the two screws holding it to the air box. Then something like a pair of channel locks to remove the clamp.

The extended warranty on the MAF is 7 years or 70,000 miles. Sounds like you're no longer under warranty on a 1999 model.

alright. I cleaned it and no luck. so i guess i'll just replace it.

Also. I attempted to replace my spark plugs and now every cyloinder is misfiring.... WHAT WENT WRONG!

I dont understand. i used all the right parts, and I was pretty gentle withthe wires. would damaged wires cause a misfire?? I had one misfire before i changed them and now i have 4~!
