Lightbulb Suggestions Anyone??

So, I have replaced both O2 sensors, spark plug wires and spark plugs and the fuel filter.

The bug idles great, but when I'm driving I'm still getting a hesitation/ lack of power in 2nd and 3rd gear.

Took it to Auto Zone, they ran the codes. I was getting Long term fuel trim too lean, system too rich, random/multiple cylinder misfire, cylinder 1 misfire, cylinder 2 misfire, O2 Sensor(pre-converter) heater malfunction, O2 Sensor (pre-converter) Not Functioning, and Mass Air Flow Sensor Low Input.

Now, the chick at Auto Zone wouldn't clear the codes, so I think some of the repairs I have made might clear some of those codes.

Any advice?

If your mpg is also suffering, I'd say MAF is the next thing to replace.

Even if I replace the MAF sensor, is that gonna stop the hesitation?

My buddy thinks it's the coil pack.

I have been leaning more so towards the MAF sensor.

I just don't know if tha MAF sensor will cure the hesitation /lack of power problem.

a bad maf usually makes the car seem to lack power.
i would lean towards the coil due to the hesitation.

What about the fuel injectors?

Do you think those might be gunked up?

not very likely unless you are using the worst gas available.

I had your problem and here is what I did. Changed the spark plugs, wires, fuel fliter and lastly the coil. I bought the coil from E-Bay for $40. Also, I stop using regular gas(87) and switched to 89. So far, running excellent. Also, I cleaned the throttle body with throttle body cleaner and the MAF with MAF cleaner. That also seemed to help a great deal. My car runs 100% better than when I bought it. Good luck. Also, just in case you want to get your injectors cleaned, I sent my Fieros injectors to www.cruzinperformance.com. The guy, Rich, does a hell of a job getting them to flow back up to spec. I believe the proce is about $14 per injector. A very reasonable price to pay.

I think you have a MAF going out. If it were the coil you should get misfires and codes would be logged. Either randon misfires or specific cylinder misfires. The bad MAF gives more general codes and hesitation or poor drivability.

Usually (with mine anyway) idles fine but has problems at certain RPMs.

Still no luck. I replaced the Coil pack and I cleaned the MAF. The car is still lacking power. Idles fine but when I give it gas it stutters and hesitates. I'm getting real frustrated because I have already put like $600.00 into this thing over the last week and half.

The codes I was getting were: long term fuel trim too lean, system too rich, random/multiple cylinder misfire, cylinder 1 misfire, cylinder 2 misfire, O2 Sensor (pre-converter) heater malfuction, O2 Sensor (pre-converter) no activity, and MAF Sensor low input.

Help, before I push the thing off a cliff!

Is your cat plugged up???? no not the one laying on the couch! Fire it up have someone rev it up and feel whats coming out the end. and if your having misfires your wires are whats shorting out not the plugs.

I would say patience friend. I know it gets to you. I just went through the same thing. Did you get a chance to clean the TB? Also, just to be safe, are you sure that your spark plug cables are seated correctly?

Well, I finally gave up and took it to a friend of a friend whom specializes in VW's, Beemers and Mercedes. He runs a little shop out of his house.

He looked it over and he thinks it's an intake manifold leak.

He said I did the right stuff (thanks to the vast cornicopia of knowledge here at the org) and he said it shouldn't be too terrible to fix.

Negative on the intake manifold. Now he thinks it's the fuel pump. He says he thinks it's dying.

That should be easy enough to put a gauge on...

Coolant temp. sensor and vacuum hoses. Both are cheap and easy to replace.

Good luck!!!
