Cool Secondary pump changeout...

Well, I guess it's that time. The CEL keeps returning P0411 and the pump is making a racket each morning at start up for a couple of minutes. I can probably pick up a used pump for cheap at the local German salvage yard. The question is: Is this a piece-of-cake to do or am I going to need to do a Matrix-like download of the procedure to get this done. I'm short on spare time this weekend so is this gonna take 10 min., an hour or another day???

Thanx, in advance, for your consideration...

Is your 2ndary air pump splitting in 2 like most of the 1.8t pumps? Most people can fix it with a small set of bolts and nuts. Drill out the loose rivets and secure them with bolts.

To pull and replace I don't know, but it looks like it was all reachable. Different motor, so I'm not sure, but I don't think you have to take anything off before you get to the pump.

Cool

Thank you! I'll have a look-see tomorrow morning and check this out. Don't know if it has split or not but I hope that new fasteners will be the cure-all for this issue. Gonna call the salvage yard later today (just in case)...

Cool

Well...this was the easiest repair I've ever done on a vehicle. It literally took me 5 minutes. (remove two hoses using two fingers) unplug the wiring harness, and unscrew three easily accessed nuts with a 10 mm. socket. THAT'S IT!!
This would likely have been a nearly $700 repair at the dealer ship ($500 part + tax & labor) but it cost me only $108 and 5 minutes. I have to give props to my local VW salvage yard:

"Specialized German Recycling 3600 Recycle Road, Rancho Cordova, CA 95742 (916)631-1700 FAX (916) 631-3510"

Went to AutoZone and borrowed OBD II scanner (no charge) and cleared the CEL. Life is good again...
