Default aternator brushes, anyone ever tried replacing?

Hi,

Before a go buy a $200 replacemment alternator is it worth checking for bad componants that could be replaced in the alternator?

Has anyone ever had any luck with just replacing brushes or regulators?? (Its a Bosch 90 amp in a 99 2.0 GLS with 94K miles.)

thanks

I havent replaced brushes in years. I would rather just spend the $200 and not have to worry about it.

to me i wouldnt even check if the alternator is bad.. its better to buy the whole thing other than tryin to rebuild it.. Maybe if we at PI aka Phillippines they would rebuild your alternator.. just my input.. stay safe.. SHoots

On my 85 Golf ... I sold it after 12 years an 165K ... Had the original alternator, but the regulator/brushes were changed once at around 80K for much less than the alternator and a hell of a lot easier. The brushes were nearly gone. I don't know if our alternators are designed the same. It did not require removal of the alternator or belt to do it.
