Though I have only 61,000 on my '99, I intend to continue having my car dealer serviced (having a competent caring dealer is key) and pass my car down to my younger daughter at some point in time. This is my eighth Volkswagen. Had my first ('69 Beetle) at age 20. I'm now 54...

My '99 2.0 is coming very close to 200,000 miles with just a few problems that have been well taken care of. I'm most proud of the original clutch still going strong!

(I hope it doesn't give out tomorrow!)

Depends on the engine and transmission really I think. And how well you take care of the car. The 2.0 engines and manual transmissions will run for a loooong time. Its hard to kill a 2.0. You may have to replace the clutch on a manual during its lifetime but even so, the manual transmissions live a long time. I'm wanting to keep my car for a long time. I have a 2.0 manual. '99 with 73k on it. My dream plan is to keep my car for the next 3 or so years as my primary car. Then, once I get an income, buy a Rabbit TDI (if they ever actually make one...stupid VW) and then somewhere along the line get an old Beetle. But I would hope I can keep my car through all of this. If I don't, the car may be going to my bf's younger sister when she learns to drive, since she is starting to have a love for Beetles <3.
