A weak battery might be the cause of those codes. Mine did that last year and went away after replacing the batery. Have the battery recharged and then try to clear codes.

That could be it....but it's weird that I've gone through about 4 dead batteries over 8 yrs, and none of them ever caused the airbag light to come on when weak or dying.
Does anyone know if any fuses could be the cause? |

That first code you had was the same I got. Undid the negative terminal, checked the harness under the drivers' seat, made sure there was no splices in the wires, put the negative terminal wire back on, did a voltage check, and alternator test, reset the code......hasn't come back on since.

how do you guys reset the codes for the airbag system? we have an OBDII code reader for stuff like an o2 sensor and whatnot... i was under the assumption that to read and reset the airbag codes that i'd need to cough up the dough for a Vag-Com... is this true?

I found this GS200 VW/Audi OBDII reader on Ebay, and it works like a champ....and way cheaper than a Vag-Com. It reads and reports all VAG and OBD trouble codes...not just the basic OBD ones that other code readers do. It comes with a booklet that lists what all of the codes mean (like what i typed out above). Vag-Com may have some more detailed analysis or something, but i've never worked with one myself. At any rate this is much more affordable for most people...
Do a search on Ebay for it, they sell for about $33 i think. Here's the description: "The GS200 VW/Audi Trouble Code Reader is a scanner for real-time automotive diagnosis based on the OBD 2 protocol. It offers many years of reliable use with its robust housing and solid construction. By simply plugging it into your vehicles diagnostic socket, you will be able to read all trouble codes related to the "Check Engine Light", ABS, Airbag System and Automatic Transmission System. You can also identify the code by consulting the included manual. It will also Erase or Reset the trouble light." BTW, thanks for the info, spdnbeetle01. The airbag light has yet to come on again, so I'm hoping it was nothing. |
