After searching the forum for clues this morning, I checked out the front sway bar bushings, strut bushing, and tie rods for a bad squeak we get on hot days. It turned out to be the inner tie rod end on the right side. Having just replaced the same part on my Eurovan, I opted to poke a small hole in the boot and shoot the joint with white lithium grease and seal the hole.
The squeak is gone (for 5 minutes or 5 years...who knows) and it was an easy fix. Replacing the inner tie rod end entails a front end alignment and a nasty boot reinstallation, so I gambled this would work for some time. (2000 New Beetle) Thanks for getting me started. |
