Started the car today and the temp light was blue for the first few minutes of the drive. After about 1/2 hour the temp light came on flashing red. I checked the fan fuse and coolant level. Both were fine. Fans do kick on. Drove it again and the red light started blinking again. The heater is still putting out lots of heat. After looking around here for a while I'm wondering if it's water pump, thermostat, or temp sensor. Any suggestions?
I am no expert, but I say don't drive it, tow your Beetle to a shop..if the temp light is flashing red, that's a bad thing. Last time mine came on it was the water pump. Good Luck!
It's my daughters car and the people she bought it from (family friends) had it fixed at the dealer. I doubt they changed the timing belt and tensioner at the same time. Does the timing belt get changed at 100K?
