Default Catalytic converter question

I have a terrible noise, I really think it s the catalytic converter, I read the code at Autozone and it comes out as a fuel metering unit problem code but I heard that cat. problems come out under the same code: is that true?
Also: Do you know approximately the price of the job? Does anyone knows a good VW mechanic in Bakersfield, ca?
Thanks so much for your help!!!!!!!!

Other than a broken internal baffel or external heat shield, a catalitic converter makes no noise...nor would either of those two cause a check engine light. There's no fuel metering going on in the cat so, I'd ask the dealer to be sure. BTW, what was the code exactly?

I also am experiencing a horrible noise...like a broken loose
baffle, its probably in my resonator but its driving me nuts it sounds like a loose muffler clamp is just dangling and rattling on the exhaust pipe, but there are none. Its driving me nuts too!!!
Guess I know what cherry is getting for christmas....a new magnaflow catback.

It's probably your catalytic converter so a catback won't fix it

I did get a check engine light from the exhaust system, stemming from the CAT. The so call "honey combs inside the cat" Broke away and clogged the exhaust outlet. Car was slow and because the exhaust couldn't escape. Mostly sounds like ratting in the exhaust system.
