Default Engine serial numbers?

Anyone know where to find orginal engine serial numbers for the New Beetle 2.0 year 2000 built in Mexico? And where is it stamped on the engine. Bought one for my daughter and now I have engine trouble.....I think it's a junk yard engine. The "body" only had 52K miles on it and it shouldn't have internal engine issues.....but it does.

Help?

Thanks,

Randy

What are the issues you are having? It is possible to have engine trouble at any mileage, especially in quirky Volkswagens. Not sure about the serial number though

THe engine code is top of the timing belt cover. Yours should be an AEG.

And yeah, what you've described is normal.
